How I Set My Goals For The Year

So, the New Year is here! And no, I don’t do a “new year, new me,” but I do, however, personally hope that with each year of my life I become «a better me».

For this new year,  I pray that I can further my career, save more money, spend more time with my friends and family in the midwest, become forever stronger in my relationship, and, of course, ya girl always wants to visit more countries and get more passport stamps (I love exploring and would visit almost every country if I could)! So every January, I set very specific goals, with deadlines. For 2019, I’m not only setting goals, but for the first time I’m also choosing a word that will be my “word of the year.”

I always, always WRITE MY GOALS DOWN

I always write goals for my career, my financial life, and my personal life and they are always specific (i.e. a goal would be to earn a $15,000 raise or lose 15 pounds by April, instead of just “make more money” or “lose weight”). At the end of the year I look at my goals list to see what I actually accomplished vs what’s still left to complete. I need to see my goals written down to keep my ass on track! One of my biggest fears is to look back over a year and realize I accomplished nothing major for that entire year. That would be insane (and unacceptable) to me! For 2018, I didn’t accomplish every single goal, but I did accomplish 6 out of 9. And I’m good with that! Plus I accomplished other things that weren’t even on my list!

My word to meditate on for 2019 will be INCREASE

More Ways To Jump Start Your New Year:

  • And I’m speaking to myself too, but consider paying attention to the negative emotions, memories, and beliefs that you’re carrying around with you (maybe this belief for you is why you never feel like you’re good enough, or why you’re convinced you’re going to fail so your defense mechanism is to never even try, or why you think your sibling is better than you, or why you’re obsessed with your weight or obsessed with what other people think of you, etc etc, because we ALL have something). In order to fix a problem, you have to first know what’s wrong. I strongly, strongly believe in seeing a therapist to dig deeper and find out where these thoughts came from and why you’re still holding on to them. «Heal and let go». Do it for you and do it for your children, so that maybe they won’t have to grow up and carry your same burdens. ♥
  • Reading “You Are A Bad Ass” is always a good idea.
  • After (or before) you read “You Are A Bad Ass,” get you some culture and read a book by James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Alice Walker, or Zora Neale Hurston.
  • Try deciding that you are going to work out, not because you hate your body, but because you love your body– because «you love yourself and your body enough to actually take care of it».

So what did you accomplish in 2018? Did you visit a new country? Did you become closer to God? Did you get a raise? If you’re a nurse, did you try a new discipline? Did you quit your job for a better opportunity? Start a business? Buy a home? LEAVE IT IN THE COMMENTS BELOW⇓⇓⇓

I quit a well paying full time job because I wasn’t not happy (quit miserable actually) and took a opportunity with lower pay part time job. However, Its in an environment I hope to pursue a professional career field in. Best decision I ever made, and I realized money is a great asset, but it definitely doesn’t make you happy. A lesson learned.
